I teach medical humanities and bioethics at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), and I serve as a clinical ethicist for UAMS hospital and Arkansas Children's Hospital.
I teach health care ethics and clinical reasoning, and I have a secondary appointment in the Department of Neurology.
My primary research interest is in expertise studies, in particular, the nature of expertise and the extent of expert authority. I also work on issues related to health literacy and moral distress.
